How to: Upload new firmware to RF Explorer

RF Explorer firmware updates are available for free. The main goal is to expand this little device with more functionality as required by users and also enable software functionality when new features are available with RF Explorer expansion modules.

We recommend upgrading your device with latest available firmware, it is a safe process and you can always go back to your previous firmware if needed. An important note is you must always check the device model you are going to upgrade: if you try to upload a Signal Generator firmware into a Spectrum Analyzer device, you will likely destroy internal calibration data. The Uploader tool will ask you before doing any action.

Firmware v1.12 and newer can be installed from Linux, Windows or MacOS X. Click on the OS icon for specific link.

You will find the uploader tool in the RF Explorer star program group, after installing the Windows tool that comes in the zip file.

We are working to provide a Mac upgrade tool soon, in the meantime please use Parallels, VirtualBox or VMWare in your Mac to load Windows and use this tool

Hi,
I've downloaded the BIN file to my Windows 7 machine and amazingly enough Windows cant figure out what to use to open the file. they just tell me to "go to the internet" to find the appropriate file. this drives me nuts. in 2013 Microsoft cant design an operating system that can just open the file. So perhaps someone here can just tell me how to open the BIN file and simply upgrade my firmware. thank you.

Brian, don't try to use the .BIN file right from the operating system. You should open Uploader tool first, then use the "..." button to navigate to the exact location the BIN file is.

I have downloaded the Silicon Labs drivers and started again and it works now. Looking forward to making use of the enhancements, many thanks, Eric.
